The problem we are facing is that Hong Kong students have been experiencing sporadic class disruptions for most of the past two years with many classes taking place via conventional video conferencing, namely Zoom, and video call of other means. With such drastic changes, both education and student life have been fundamentally affected. Most students find it mentally and physically exhausting attending these virtual classes for extended hours. The social aspects of student life are impeded by the limiting engagement and interaction available on these platforms.
Recognizing the ineffectiveness of conventional means, we spent efforts to experiment our ‘Virtual Worlds, Real Bodies’ programme implemented teaching in virtual space to simulate real-life classroom. Having a virtual body present allow the class to talk freely with one another as though they were in the same room.
